Healthy trees are easier and cheaper to look after than neglected ones.
Prune at the right time
Remove dead or crossing branches once a year. Most trees are best pruned in late winter, before new growth starts.
Look after the soil
A ring of mulch about 5 cm deep keeps moisture in and weeds out. Keep it a hand's width away from the trunk.
Water in dry spells
A deep soak once a week is better than a light sprinkle every day.
Check for problems early
Look for peeling bark, fungus at the base, dead branches or leaves that drop early. Call an arborist if you see them.
Know when to call us
For large branches, trees near buildings or power lines, always use a professional.
